4Media Photo Slideshow Maker is intended to create a video presentation from your favorite photographs. The program’s interface is based on a timeline to which you add (or drag) the desired elements, so most users will use it with no difficulty. In fact, after you have used it once or twice, you will be creating slideshows quite fluently.
Most popular image formats are supported as input, and you can import the pictures either individually or as complete folders. Likewise, you can add background music from a wide range of audio file formats.
Once placed in the timeline, the elements can be re-arranged according to your preferences. Then, you can set the display times for the pictures or the transitions between them. The imported audio file can be edited by clipping a specific segment, adjusting the volume or setting it to loop. Unfortunately, there is no much more you can do to personalize the slideshow because you will have little control over the types of transitions or how long specific pictures need to be displayed. Moreover, there is only one video effect available (zoom) and there are no picture filters to apply.
One of the main assets of this application is that it can generate files based on a great deal of output profiles, some of which have a general purpose, others are intended for playback on given devices and the rest are meant to create web-friendly animations (as SWF and FLV). However, if none of the built-in profiles meets your exact needs, you can always use specific parameters.
In general, 4Media Photo Slideshow Maker can turn out very useful when you are willing to go without using a PowerPoint presentation, as when you intend to play your file on a portable device or a DVD player. Unfortunately, it is not as sophisticated as other video-editing applications around but certainly a lot cheaper and easier to use.
